Position Overview

This is a critical backend role focused on building the core engine of a global financial services application. You will be responsible for developing a high-performance system that handles real money at scale, integrating with crypto wallets, banking providers, and international payment rails. The environment is high-stakes and technically dense, requiring deep ownership of core services including auth, ledgering, and complex transaction orchestration.

You will work directly alongside the technical founders to establish engineering standards and build a secure, reliable application from the ground up. As the company scales, this role offers a clear trajectory toward becoming a backend or general engineering lead.

Technical Skills

• Backend Engineering: Deep expertise in building and shipping robust web applications using Python (FastAPI), Go, or Rust.

• Database & Cache: Production experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and high-volume data modeling.

• Infrastructure: Hands-on experience architecting and deploying services within the AWS ecosystem.

• API Design: Mastery of RESTful API design to power diverse iOS, Android, and Web frontends.

• Fintech Fundamentals: Direct experience building money-movement systems, including Ledgers, Payment Orchestration, and Anti-Fraud/AML logic.

 

Role Priorities

• Core Product Development: Lead the build-out of a Python-based monolith and determine when to break out performant services into Rust or Go.

• Third-Party Integration: Architect reliable connections with cryptocurrency wallet providers and banking service APIs.

• System Integrity: Prioritize security and correctness in a system designed to manage real-world financial assets internationally.

• Standard Setting: Define early-stage engineering principles and best practices that will serve as the foundation for the future team.

• Strategic Scaling: Balance the immediate need for feature delivery with the long-term goal of high availability and performant architecture.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience building scalable web applications.

• Fintech Pedigree: Proven track record at startups in the banking, credit card, crypto, or payments space.

• Build-First Mentality: Demonstrated experience building core financial systems from the ground up, rather than just maintaining them.

• U.S. Market Tenure: Significant experience building and shipping software products within the United States.

• Full-Stack Flexibility: While backend-focused, the ability to flex into other parts of the stack as needed is a major plus.

• Verified Work: Candidates must provide a GitHub profile or equivalent code portfolio for technical review.

• Onsite Commitment: Ability to work out of the San Francisco headquarters 5 days a week.
