About Our Client
Our client is building the AI-native operating system for regulated finance, beginning with mortgage servicing. They have rebuilt the entire servicing stack from the ground up and currently manage over $110 billion in mortgage assets on their own platform. By transforming high-complexity industries through automation and structured data, they have turned traditional 0% margin businesses into high-growth, high-margin software operations. Backing includes top-tier Venture Capital firms, and the team is composed of builders from premier technology companies like Stripe, Jane Street, Google, and Meta.

Position Overview
This is a senior-level individual contributor role for a backend engineer who enjoys building complex systems at scale. You will own the design and delivery of infrastructure that handles billions of dollars in transactions while navigating challenging regulatory requirements. The environment is lean, flat, and high-autonomy, favoring engineers who want to do the best work of their lives without management layers.

Technical Skills
-
Backend Expertise: Python (Primary), Go, or Java.
-
Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, and GCP/AWS.
-
Database: PostgreSQL, Redis, and distributed data systems.
-
Architecture: Microservices, API design, and event-driven systems.
-
Tooling: Git, CI/CD pipelines, and observability frameworks.
Â
Role Priorities
-
Technical Anchor: Own end-to-end design and implementation of complex, cross-cutting features.
-
Architectural Ownership: Design robust infrastructure to handle evolving federal and state regulations.
-
Fast Turnaround: Ability to move from design to production delivery at startup speed.
-
Product Thinking: Work with Product and Design to define the best customer experiences.
-
Reliability: Define monitoring and observability for the systems you build.
Â
Who Thrives in This Role
-
The Hands-on Builder: You are a technical practitioner who prefers coding every day over managing personnel or focusing purely on compliance and governance.
-
The Startup Native: You have a proven track record at high-growth startups and thrive in "Day Zero" environments where autonomy is high and management layers are absent.
-
The Intentional Engineer: You possess a deep understanding of software fundamentals and do not rely on AI tools for code you cannot personally explain, debug, or refactor.
-
The Cross-Functional Partner: You enjoy being "shoulder-to-shoulder" with the team 5 days a week in an office setting to drive rapid product cycles and high-bandwidth collaboration.
-
The High-Intensity Performer: You are energized by the pace of an intensive, high-output culture and prefer delivering direct results over working within a structured 9–5 corporate schedule.

Key Responsibilities
-
Write high-quality, well-reasoned code serving as a reference for the team.
-
Translate ambiguous regulatory requirements into clear, extensible engineering plans.
-
Dive deep into the inner workings of the mortgage industry to build better software.
-
Mentor mid-level engineers through thoughtful code reviews and architectural guidance.
-

Â
Qualifications
-
4–6 years of software engineering experience in the United States.
-
Career progression showing promotion to a senior-level role or above.
-
History of employment at well-known, high-growth technology startups.
