About Our Client

Our client is building a global consumer neobank that merges banking, payments, and crypto into a single, seamless ecosystem. By focusing on emerging markets where traditional local currencies and banking systems often fail, they are enabling users worldwide to move money without friction.

The organization is comprised of a small, elite group of operators and engineers who have previously built services used by hundreds of millions of people. Operated as a senior-only team with no corporate layers or politics, the company leverages massive day-one distribution through strategic partners. Every member of this team is a practitioner who directly ships product and shapes the technical direction of the company.

Position Overview

As a founding Data & Operations Engineer, you will define the core systems and workflows that move data across the internal architecture and beyond. This is a high-impact role where your infrastructure will enable engineering teams to aggregate critical telemetry, empower FinOps to maintain reliable ledgers across global partners, and allow Fraud/AML teams to build high-quality risk models.

You will work directly with the technical founders to establish a robust foundation for a global user base. The environment is fast-paced and requires an engineer who can balance high-level architectural design with the "nitty-gritty" execution of data modeling and ETL/ELT orchestration.

Technical Skills

  • Infrastructure as Code: Expert knowledge in Terraform for building robust foundations.

  • Data Modeling: Extensive experience with dbt and SQL to ship clean, understandable data models.

  • Cloud Ecosystem: Deep familiarity with AWS products and data-centric deployment patterns.

  • Data Architecture: Experience building scalable data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, or event-driven systems.

  • Backend Fundamentals: Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, Redis, and general backend systems.

  • Security & Governance: Ability to define Least Access patterns and preserve data lineage in a regulated environment.

Role Priorities

  • Foundation Building: Ensure data and applications are built on a solid, scalable architecture using modern tooling.

  • Internal Empowerment: Architect a unified analytics platform that bridges product data and platform telemetry.

  • Risk & Compliance Support: Ship high-quality data models that power internal fraud decisioning and AML workflows.

  • Financial Integrity: Enable consistent, reliable ledgering across multiple international financial partners.

  • Knowledge Leadership: Document and educate the broader team on infrastructure systems designed for global scale.

Who Thrives in This Role

  • The FinTech Veteran: You have spent at least 5 years in the trenches of banking, crypto, or payments, and you understand the data complexities of global money movement.

  • The Senior Operator: You thrive in a senior-only environment where you are expected to self-manage and set goals that align with a fast-shipping team.

  • The Data Storyteller: You don't just move data; you understand its lineage and can model it in a way that provides clear value to non-experts and AI systems alike.

  • The Disciplined Architect: You work deliberately to provide appropriately scoped solutions, ensuring data governance and compliance are built-in from the start.

  • The Collaborative Builder: You value open communication and believe that code and company culture should be held to the same high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and maintain the core data pipelines and platforms supporting a global neobank.

  • Deploy and validate code across internal and hosted environments using expert-level dev patterns.

  • Define secure data access patterns that balance speed with strict regulatory compliance.

  • Collaborate with engineering and operations to ensure reliable data flow across a complex partner ecosystem.

  • Continuously improve data infrastructure to support high-growth, high-volume financial transactions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience building and shipping mission-critical data platforms and pipelines.

  • Extensive experience in a consumer-oriented FinTech environment (Banking, Lending, Crypto, etc.).

  • Mastery of Terraform, dbt, and SQL for scalable architecture.

  • Proven track record building scalable systems within the United States market.

  • Strong technical communication skills, particularly the ability to document complex systems clearly.

  • Ability to work onsite in the San Francisco headquarters 5 days a week.

What's Offered

  • Top-of-Market Cash: A compensation model designed for seniors that prioritizes immediate financial reward over long-term equity risks.

  • Absolute Ownership: Direct responsibility for major portions of the product and data infrastructure.

  • Day 1 Scale: Influence a product being deployed to millions of users through established global partners.

  • Zero Overhead: Work in a flat, senior environment focused entirely on shipping product rather than navigating politics.

  • Founding Impact: Shape the technical vision and architecture as the company scales from the ground floor.
