Location: New York, NY (In Office, 5 days/week)
Job Type: Full Time
Years of Experience: 6–8 Years (5–10 Years Considered)

About Our Client

Our client is transforming how go-to-market teams operate by turning every customer interaction into structured data, insights, and intelligent action. Their AI agents help organizations run faster, learn continuously, and make deal cycles more efficient and predictable. Trusted by hundreds of rapidly growing B2B companies, the business is building out its NYC engineering presence with a small, high-caliber team — a flat structure, direct access to the CPO, and serious investment in developer tooling and engineering quality.

Position Overview

This is the technical anchor role on the NYC team — one of two tech leads, with an infrastructure and backend lean. You will own architecture and high-impact projects from ambiguity through production, while staying hands-on as an individual contributor. You are not transitioning into people management — you are becoming the engineer others rely on when the hardest problems need solving.

You will mentor a cohort of transitioning engineers, set the engineering standard through code reviews and technical leadership, and own a flagship feature within your first six months. This role requires deep distributed systems experience, Go proficiency, and a product engineering bias — you care about what customers experience, not just how the system runs.

Technical Skills

  • Deep production-scale distributed systems expertise

  • Go — primary stack language

  • Kubernetes and AWS

  • Tech lead and engineering lead experience with hands-on coding throughout

  • Architectural ownership of B2B or product engineering systems

  • AI-forward tooling mindset

  • Temporal workflow orchestration (strong plus)

  • Conversational AI, CRM integrations, call analytics, or revenue intelligence systems (strong plus)

Role Priorities

  • Own architecture and delivery of complex distributed systems from ambiguity through production.

  • Stay hands-on as an IC while providing technical leadership across the team.

  • Mentor a cohort of engineers transitioning into more senior development roles.

  • Conduct code reviews and raise the engineering floor through direct feedback and example.

  • Own a flagship platform feature within the first six months.

  • Solve architectural and systems problems beyond the reach of junior engineers and AI tooling.

  • Drive customer-facing product engineering with a focus on scale and reliability.

Who Thrives in This Role

  • You are a hands-on tech lead, not a hands-off EM. You write code, review architecture, and set the technical standard through example — not through delegating.

  • You've owned production-scale distributed systems. You can walk through the architecture of a system you built, explain the tradeoffs, and tell us what you'd do differently.

  • You are fluent in Go. It's the primary language of the stack, and you're productive in it without a ramp-up period.

  • You mentor by instinct. You find it natural to help junior engineers grow — not because it's a job requirement, but because you care about the quality of the team around you.

  • You thrive in-office. You're energized by in-person collaboration and committed to being on the floor five days a week.

  • You want to stay technical. This role is a clear signal that you're not chasing a management track — you want to remain the strongest engineer in the room.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and deliver complex, high-impact distributed systems in Go, Kubernetes, and AWS.

  • Serve as the technical anchor on the NYC team, driving architectural decisions and setting engineering standards.

  • Mentor a cohort of field-deployed engineers transitioning into software development roles.

  • Conduct code reviews and provide technical feedback that raises the engineering floor.

  • Own a flagship platform feature within the first six months.

  • Partner with product engineering on customer-facing initiatives and drive them through production.

  • Solve complex systems problems that are beyond the reach of junior engineers and AI tooling.

Qualifications

  • 6–8 years preferred; 5–10 years considered for the right candidate.

  • Go proficiency — must be immediately productive without a ramp-up period.

  • Deep production-scale distributed systems experience, including architecture ownership.

  • Formal tech lead or engineering lead experience with hands-on coding throughout — not just oversight.

  • 3+ years of tenure at a single company strongly preferred.

  • Strong product engineering bias and instinct for customer-facing systems.

  • Strong mentorship instinct and willingness to invest in the growth of junior engineers.

  • Must be able to work in person in New York City five days per week. EST preferred.

  • Relocation assistance available for exceptional candidates.

  • Visa sponsorship available.

What's Offered

  • Competitive salary and equity package.

  • Comprehensive benefits.

  • High-caliber, in-person team environment in NYC's SoHo/NoHo neighborhood.

  • Direct access to senior engineering leadership.

  • Relocation assistance available for exceptional candidates.

If you're a hands-on tech lead with deep Go and distributed systems experience who wants to anchor a high-caliber engineering team, stay technical, and build products that matter — we'd love to hear from you.
